Modelling tools

To start with, most of the commands below are available from different places. Only the most commonly used have a keyboard shortcut. However, if you forgot the shortcut, just check in the menus and you'll find it there, together with many other tools.

As a matter of efficiency, it's better to learn the shortcuts, however, it's easy to forget them if we don't blender regularly, or if we don't use the tool very often. Therefore, it is a good idea to have a good idea where you can find each of the tools in the menus.

The very basics

Here are the tools you absolutely cannot do without. You most probably know all of this already.

Selection:
- 'a' to select/deselect all.
- right click to select vertices, edges and faces.
- 'b' for box selection.
- 'c' for circle selection.

Grab/move.
Rotate.
Scale.

constraint the above operations on the X, Y or Z axis or by a certain measurement.

Building geometry

Divide loop: Ctrl+R.

Extrude: 'e'. Extrude vertices, edges and faces.

Make a edge / face 'f'.

Removing geometry

Separate: 'v'. disconnect part of the mesh by duplicating and separating an edge.

Delete: 'x'.

Also...

Rotate an edge: Ctrl + 'e'

make edges and faces aligned with the axis: scale + X, Y or Z + 0.

Specials menu: 'w'
=> subdivide.

Alt + J: create a quad face out of two triangles.

Alt + M: weld (collapse) two vertices into one.

Alt + S: normal scale = scale away from the mesh.
