The ALT key on a linux system

On a Linux (Ubuntu...) system, the ALT key is often used by the operating system as a shortcut for window or desktop operations. As a result, the same key combinations with the ALT key do not work on blender.

It is actually easy to remedy to this problem. Beside the ALT key, your keyboard most probably has a SUPER key (the key with the windows logo) and a MENU key. The trick is to remap some of the keys within the operating system.

KDE

Go to:
K menu >> System Settings >> Hardware >> Input devices >> Keyboards >> Advanced tab.
Expand the "Alt/Win key behavior".
Select "Alt is mapped to Right Win, Super to Menu".
Apply.

Gnome

In the top menu bar, go to System >> Preferences >> keyboard (Layouts).
Click on the button "Options. In the "Action shortcuts" window, >> "Alt/Win Key Behavior"
Select "Alt is mapped to Right Win, Super to Menu"
