From: #413: Publish test blender video
I'm trying to publish some test videos, but the movie aspect is wrong.
mplayer keeps wanting to change it.
e.g.:
Starting playback...
VDec: vo config request - 640 x 480 (preferred colorspace: Planar YV12)
VDec: using Planar YV12 as output csp (no 0)
Movie-Aspect is 1.75:1 - prescaling to correct movie aspect.
VO: [xv] 640x480 => 840x480 Planar YV12
640x480 was the ratio chosen when outputting the timeline with kdenlive.
what's up?

The rescaling problems occurs with vlc as well, so it seems to be more of a kdenlive problem than the player's problem.

That's definitely a problem with kdenlive, apparently a known bug:

It may have been fixed in the latest release. So, don't waste time with this issue now. Check again when I've upgraded my computer so that I can test the latest kdenlive.

I still have this problem 2 years later with the latest kdenlive.
Clips are 1920x1080 videos output by blender.
But when I render them with kdenlive, I get a video with black bands above and below. The video IS 1920x1080, but including those black bands. I.e. the original blender clips were scaled down.

render.3b.lossless.mpeg4.mp3.avi => force progressive.
render.3c.lossless.mpeg4.mp3.avi => force interlace.

Ok, fixed.
I documented the proper settings to use.
